Got Questions

Everything You Need to Know Before You Begin

We believe informed organisations make better compliance decisions. Here are the answers to what most teams ask before they start.

Retention should be determined according to applicable laws, public-service requirements and organisational policies. Where information is no longer required and deletion is legally permissible, appropriate disposal processes should be considered.

They should identify what personal data contractors can access, establish appropriate responsibilities and security controls and monitor the handling of information throughout the engagement.

The department should assess whether the proposed use is authorised or otherwise permitted under the applicable legal framework. Data collected for one purpose should not automatically be assumed to be available for unrelated uses.

Digital personal data processed through government portals should be assessed against the applicable provisions. Portals should implement appropriate security and privacy controls and provide required information to users where applicable.

Municipal bodies should identify personal data collected through applications, property services, complaints, licences and other digital services and establish appropriate security, access, retention and data-sharing controls.
